Swivels, or also rotating couplings, ensure a nozzle remains in the same position.
 
When uncoiling hoses from the hose reel the hose twists inside the pipe causing the nozzle to flip too. Sandshoe nozzles or the even larger Bulldozer types of nozzles can only function if they remain flat on the bottom of the pipe.
